CROPPING & ZOOMING FOR BETTER COMPOSITIONAL PHOTOS'
| What is cropping?
In an ideal world, every photo we take would be perfectly composed. However, in real life, many photographs could use some improvement.
Often, thoughtful cropping can make the difference between a mediocre image and a better one. Cropping a photo just means eliminating or trimming off edges.
or taking out distractions, which draw the focal attention away from the main subject in the image.
Successful cropping can serve many useful functions, including the following:
Eliminate distracting parts of the photo
The uncropped version shows bits and pieces of many elements. You can see, from Example 1.a that there is another person right of the image,
as well as unneccasary sky and/or track legnth. Depening on your choice, it can be edited to suit. By cropping out those distracters, the subject of the photo is clear.

Example 1.a
Here is an example of a photo which you may like
but would prefer any distractions cropped and zoomed out
whilst keeping 100%* clarity in the photograph:

Example 1.b
Now you can see the difference between a cropped and uncropped photo
distractions to the right eliminated, keeping the main focal subject crystal clear
again, keeping 100%* quality in the photograph:

| And zooming??
zooming in to get full impact
Shooting track and field events CAN BE DANGEROUS for photographers. As you can see, from Example 2.a the discus.
usually we stand quite far from these as nobody wants a discus to be thrown in there direction. This example, whilst it may still look good, probably can be made better!
This is where our zooming comes into effect, (See 2.b) to get full on upclose quality. Same technique applies to such sporting activities as The Hammer Throw and Javelin.

Here is an example of a photo which you may like
but would like an upclose impact shot
whilst keeping 100%* clarity in the photograph:

Example 2.b
Now you can see the difference between a zoomed in and un-zoomed photo
Upclose to the action, no busy back or foreground, also
again, keeping 100%* quality in the photograph:
